JOB TITLE: Fabrication Floater

DEPARTMENT: Fabrication

REPORTS TO: Fabrication Supervisor

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

A. Position Summary

Responsible for various types of weld preparation, and weld finishing operations to manufacture product to customer drawings, specifications, or other forms of instruction.

B. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Knowledge in assigned welding techniques.
  • Interpretation of mechanical drawings, including weld requirement symbolism.
  • Cutting structural steel.
  • Cross-training in plasma cutting and press break operation.
  • Conventional and precision in assisting with measuring instruments.
  • Welding equipment maintenance assistance.
  • Assist in finish grinding applications using manual and power tools.
  • Safety and Housekeeping.
  • Other duties as assigned by the area supervisor.

C. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

High School diploma, or equivalent

D. Job Requirements:

Education and Training: Candidate should have a basic welding knowledge. Prefer 2-year degree from Technical/Vocational School

E. Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee works near moving mechanical parts, welding areas, and other heavy machinery. The factory experiences significant swings in temperatures from cold to hot depending on time of year. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, carry a minimum of 50 lbs., push, and pull a minimum of 100 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
