JOB TITLE: Plasma Operator

REPORTS TO: Fab and Paint Supervisor

CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

A. Purpose and Scope:

Responsible for operating plasma operator on machine. Complete layout and inspects finished product.

B. Essential Functions

  • Burn plates and parts in a safe and efficient manner, utilizing both Messer burn table equipment and process work instructions.
  • Must be able to recommend improvements in productivity and quality.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and write English at an advanced level.
  • Advanced blueprint reading, and problem-solving skills required.
  • Sense of urgency and accountability.
  • Must be able to work well with others and communicate effectively with members of other disciplines.

C. Specific Tasks for Position

  • Ability to use the plasma burn table efficiently and independently, O2/Fuel hand torch, hand grinder, hand scraper, tape measure, and caliper to perform tasks associated with position.
  • Able to locate and reference all work instructions pertaining to current job or project.
  • Understanding of department KPIs, metrics and measurable.
  • Intermediate math skills (fraction/ decimal calculations).
  • Must be able to safely operate machinery and run overhead crane.
  • Must be a certified forklift operator.
  • Must be able to change all parts in torch head.
  • Must be able to make minor adjustments to programs.
  • Know weight of cut part and determine weight of raw material components to transition material in a safe manner. Basic computer knowledge of Window type operating system.
  • Perform daily operational checks and perform cleanup at beginning and end of shifts.
  • Ability to meet production schedule.
  • Download programs via disc, flash drive or direct connect.
  • Perform cuts and required nesting as defined by production.
  • Clean and de-burr plate as needed.
  • Assist brake operator as needed.
  • Maintain and track daily/weekly/monthly maintenance duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.

D. Job Requirements

Education and Training: High school diploma or GED equivalent

Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience required. Previous work experience in a heavy industrial or construction environment is preferred; however, it is not a requirement. Knowledge of various types of construction and or heavy equipment operation preferred.

E. Work Environment

Environment is that of a heavy industrial worksite. Outdoor elements are a factor. Exposure to air particles, such as dust, chemical (paint, oil, gas, diesel fumes) and weld smoke. Exposure to loud, penetrating noises in some work areas. Proper personal protective equipment is always required, such as, steel toed boots, ear plugs/earmuffs, safety glasses, pants, hard hats, and possible respirator use.

F. Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, carry a minimum of 50 lbs., push, and pull a minimum of 100 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
